_The spanish derby, 'el clásico'
In any sport, in any country, a derby match is a fixture between two local teams from the same city/region or two major team rivals. For example, in international football, the USA vs. Mexico always provides a good derby. The derby matches have heated atmospheres due to team philosophy and politics or city cultures. El clásico (the classic) is the most important Spanish derby and it occurs whenever Real Madrid and FC Barcelona play against each other. Check out a nice video created by ESPN (2010) depicting the dimensions of the clásico as compared to the flamenco dance. The first clásico of 2012 will be on January 18.
